1Animals never hatchedJun 02, 2010
I got dud packages. But if they had hatched, they would've been loads of fun since I've had them before.

I am one of those strange adults who love animals a great deal. Never grew out of it. This kit allows me to augment the numbers of species I keep at home for observation and enjoyment. Also, it allows me to live out one of my childhood fantasies-- having sea monkeys that actually hatch. Yes, they do hatch these days for some reason. That said, I accidentally killed my sea monkeys by moving the little jar that came with the kit. So, be careful moving them.

I moved them into the light in order to see them better as they are the tiniest specks at first. My friends rolled their eyes at their ridiculously small size. If you want slightly more visible animals in your home, triops are a bit more visible, albeit brutal little cannibals. I bought both kits at the same time and currently have one triumphant triop left who did away with his/her friends. (I didn't move the triop's plastic tank!) My friends were still rolling their eyes when they saw the triops, but their kids were impressed by both. It seems the adults just don't care about animals enough to think that almost microscopic beasts can be cool. Their loss. In short, I think that sea monkeys and triops are worth it to those who love animals or are below the age of 12 (or if you are child who loves animals then it is heaven), with the caveat that you must follow instructions--i.e. type of water, when to feed etc.--scrupulously for them to hatch and live!

2Monkey Around w/ Magnifying GlassMar 31, 2010
The eggs hatched in about 24 hours but these little guys don't seem to be active at all. We check the temperature of water and everything seems to be in order. Because of their tiny tiny size initially, you have to press hard (literally to the glass) to see some movements. So far so good!

After ONE week:
They all died.....not worth it at all.

4I LOVE THESE GUYS!!Feb 24, 2010
I have had no luck at all with the full kits with the tanks included, I tried 3 separate times and all three times ended in failure, once it got knocked off the counter, once I have baby monkeys and the temps dropped drastically and they froze to death, and the last time.... They just never hatched.

I had almost given up.

I thought maybe the TANK is the problem for me, I do find it rather ugly, and it's shape lends to accidents waiting to happen, wide and thin and tall, like a domino. And the color schemes aren't very "grown up" neon green, baby blue, pink?! So I bought a small Lee's Betta Hex Keeper, it holds 24 ounces of water. I then ordered two packets of sea-monkeys, each packet needs 10 ounces to work. I followed the directions, using 20 ounces in the betta keeper and leaving the gravel out (the monkeys might get stuck or crushed in the gravel).

4 days later I have a populations EXPLOSION!!! I have so many monkeys I can't even COUNT them!!

I highly suggest if you don't like the look of the sea-monkeys tanks, don't get discouraged, try something else, there's a TON of "betta tanks" here on amazon that would work fantastically for sea-monkeys! All you have to do is be sure to measure how much water you are putting in it. And use distilled water, it works 1000x better.

3Kids enjoyed it, but shrimp died quicklyNov 14, 2009
The grandkids loved it, but the brine shrimp always die quickly. We follow the instructions exactly, and yet they still die. I gave it three since the kids enjoyed it, but I think if you want pets, buy an aquarium.
